Northfield Garden Studio was started in 2019 by Lena Hofer and Marco Brandl, a horticulturist and a landscape architect who kept getting asked by friends to “just quickly look at” their balconies.
Lena trained at the HBLFA Schönbrunn and spent eight years in nursery production, so she knows which plants survive a south-facing balcony in August and which ones only look good in the catalogue. Marco worked on public park projects before deciding that he preferred gardens he could reach the end of.
What we believe
- A small garden deserves a real plan, not a trolley of impulse buys.
- Right plant, right place beats any amount of fertiliser.
- Native and pollinator-friendly planting should be the default, not an upsell.
- Peat-free compost, reused containers, and rainwater where possible.
We are members of the Austrian association of garden designers and we plant with stock from three independent nurseries in Styria.
